In front of 21,106 crazy fans in Lockhart stadium, FLorida Atlantic University showed the nation why there are the next big team to come out of Florida.
FAU was able to play with University of South Florida head-to-head. It was no quarterback shoot-out this time, but both quarterback did show why they were the top players in the nation.
USFs Matt Grothe threw for 122 yards, but threw an interception. He also rushed 120 yards on 14 carries for one touchdown.
FAUs Rusty Smith threw for 259 yards and three touchdowns. He moved the ball around well with his receivers connecting with Diivory Edgecomb, Jason Harmon and Cortez Gent.
But the star of the game was USF running back Benjamin Williams. Williams rushed for 186 yards on 25 carries and had four touchdowns. USF running game dominated FAUs defense. The bulls rushed for 302 yards.
The Owls defense forced 4 turnovers on the Bulls. The Bulls defense wasn't as explosive as they were against West Virgina. The Owls missed opportunities to win this game. FAUs kicker Warley Leroy missed three field goals. They also scored only once on there four turnovers. The bulls on the other hand, was again at the right place at the right time when it came to scoring.
Overall, the Owls football program got a lot of recognition this week for its play. this was the test that the Owls passed even though they lost. There fans showed up all out in red, to show some support. It was the biggest crowd in the schools history.
