A former Toronto Blue Jays and Oakland A's pitcher died early Friday morning. Joe Kennedy was just 28-years-old.
"After going to bed early, Kennedy woke up at about 1:15 a.m. Friday and collapsed as he was leaving a bedroom at the home of his wife's parents", Hillsborough County sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Carter said, according to The Associated Press.
Also, Hillsborough County Fire Rescue took Kennedy to Brandon Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, she said.
Kennedy was a seven year veteran with a 43-61 record. He pitched for several teams in the majors, which include: Tampa Bay, the team that drafted him, Colorado Rockies, Oakland A's, Arizona Diamondbacks and Toronto Blue Jays.
"Kennedy made his major league debut on June 6, 2001 as a starting pitcher. He went five innings, earning a win against the Blue Jays", according to ESPN. He was a winner in his first major league start, but in his career, he was tough on the mound.
He was a competitor and a go-get-him type of player. When asked about how he would react when pitching to Barry Bonds, he said i will give him all i have.
The test to determined the cause of death is expected to take 6-8 weeks. Baseball has lost a great family man and ball player. Kennedy is survive by his one-year-old son and his wife
