Miami's defense struggles... Dolphins are 0-6

One of the worst defense in the NFL showed why they were just that (the worst defense in the NFL).

The Dolphins defense allowed 384 total yardage, 244 passing yards and 140 rushing yards. They also allowed one rushing touchdown by Jason Wright and three passing touchdowns from Derek Anderson. The Dolphins also struggled on penalties. Miami had eight penalties for 90 yards. Although the inside seven of Miami's defense struggle badly, so did Miami's cornerbacks and safeties.

Browns receiver Braylon Edwards had 5 five catches for 67 yards but had three touchdowns. Tight End Kellen Winslow had a great game as well. He had five receptions for 90 yards.On the other side of the ball (offense), the Dolphins played better than usual and scored more points.

Quarterback Cleo Lemon was superb. He pass for two touchdowns to tight end David Martin and rushed for two toucdowns as well. Running Back, Ronnie Brown rushed for 101 yards on 19 carries. This is the fourth week in a row that Brown rushes for more than 100 yards. The first downs of this game was even, but that's because Miami had to play comeback to make this game close.

The Dolphins should play for next year instead of this year. Lose as much games to secure the #1 pick in next years NFL Draft. They should play with what they have and see what needs they will need.

Just when things couldn't get any worst they will. Miami plays the undefeated New England Patroits, who came away from Dallas with a big win. According to ESPN, "Cleveland handed Miami a franchise-record ninth consecutive loss.

FAU basketball recruits two players.

The countdown to March Madness is several months away, but the beginning of the regular season is near. There are many good teams to watch-out for this season.

Some include: Memphis, North Carolina, Michigan State and Louisville, but other teams are recruiting and getting ready for the years to come; those include the Florida Gators and Florida Atlantic University.

Florida Gators lost 5 starters this year to the NBA draft. The return of head coach Billy Donovan has gator fans excited again, but they will have a different mind-set then the championship team had. Instead of having leadership and experience, they will have to rely on youth and athleticism. The Gators recruited top prospect G Jai Lucas, SF Nick Calathes, Adam Allen, Chandler Parsons and Alex Tyus, to make the "baby gators" the best recruting class of 2007.

On the other hand, Florida Atlantic University had verbal agreement from two players.

Shooting Guard, Dago Pena and Combo Guard, Shay Shine verbally agreed to play for the Owls this season. With Sun-Belt conference 1st team player, Carlos Monroe, the Owls look to put one of the most explosive young team in the conference on the court.
Only FAU coach Rex Walters, though, envisioned both in his backcourt.
According to heraldtribune,"

Florida Atlantic made Dago and Shay a priority," said Matt Ramker, founder of the adidas-sponsored Florida Rams, the duo's travel team. "(FAU) worked harder than anyone. They convinced Dago to pass on much-larger schools and help build their school into a bigger national name."

Look for FAU to make a run at the Sun Belt conference championship this year. If so, it will be the second time in the school's history that the Owls would make the NCAA tournament. With young players and a leader in Monroe, the Owls will be a scoring team that can cause some damage against poor defenses.

Miami Dolphins are 0-5.

Kris Brown kicked 5 field goals including a 57-yard field goal as the Houston Texans defeated the Miami Dolphins 22-19. Brown kicked three out of his five field goals beyond 50 yards.

"That's as impressive as I've ever seen," Texans coach Gary Kubiak
said. And then to put that on top of it, i'm kind of lost of words. It's special. i don't know if we'll ever see that again."

Houston Texans offense was superb. They had more total yardage and passing yardage then the Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins running game out-rushed the Texans running game. The Dolphins running back, Ronnie Brown rushed for 114 yards on 23 carries. He also had a rushing touchdown.

If the Dolphins 0-5 start is not bad enough. During the game, the Dolphins also lost there starting quarterback Trent Green. Green, was hit in head and was injured by the Texans defensive tackle, Tarvis Johnson. The Dolphins back-up quarterback Cleo Lemon replaced Green and went 15 for 27 for 151 yards.

Lemons looked poised. He showed he can run the Dolphins offense. He will start Miami's next game. Green is out indefinetly. Miami also has options with second round pick John Beck. The BYU quarterback is now the second-string quarterback behind Cleo Lemon. If Lemon gets hurt or starts to struggle, look for Miami to start the rookie sometime down the line.

USF barely beats FAU

In front of 21,106 crazy fans in Lockhart stadium, FLorida Atlantic University showed the nation why there are the next big team to come out of Florida.

FAU was able to play with University of South Florida head-to-head. It was no quarterback shoot-out this time, but both quarterback did show why they were the top players in the nation.

USFs Matt Grothe threw for 122 yards, but threw an interception. He also rushed 120 yards on 14 carries for one touchdown.

FAUs Rusty Smith threw for 259 yards and three touchdowns. He moved the ball around well with his receivers connecting with Diivory Edgecomb, Jason Harmon and Cortez Gent.

But the star of the game was USF running back Benjamin Williams. Williams rushed for 186 yards on 25 carries and had four touchdowns. USF running game dominated FAUs defense. The bulls rushed for 302 yards.

The Owls defense forced 4 turnovers on the Bulls. The Bulls defense wasn't as explosive as they were against West Virgina. The Owls missed opportunities to win this game. FAUs kicker Warley Leroy missed three field goals. They also scored only once on there four turnovers. The bulls on the other hand, was again at the right place at the right time when it came to scoring.

Overall, the Owls football program got a lot of recognition this week for its play. this was the test that the Owls passed even though they lost. There fans showed up all out in red, to show some support. It was the biggest crowd in the schools history.

Can FAU really do it?

Florida Atlantic plays South Florida in what might be an interesting game to watch. Although #6 ranked South Florida is favored by 25 points, most think the Owls have a chance to make this a game. Check this out.

FAU has more total yardage per game and passing yards per game than South Florida, but USF has more rushing yards per game and points scored per game than FAU. Although South Florida plays in the Big East and FAU plays in the Sun Belt conference, one has to look at the others weakness in term of statistics.

Since 2001, when either FAU or USF each score above 30 points or more, combined they are 70-1. This year, FAU scored 30 or points against North Texas and Minnesota, they won both games. FAU will need to open up the running game and explore the passing game to shock the Bulls.

For FAU to have a chance on this game its simple. Stop USF running game, play at there pace of offensive game, and get the passing game going, with one of the most exciting quarterback in college football, Rusty Smith.

Smith has thrown for 1,289 yards and 9 touchdowns. He will have to explore the offense and use his talented wide receivers Jason Harmon and Cortez Gent.

On the other side of the ball, Tavious Polo, the nations top defensive back, will have to show why he leads the nation in interceptions. He we need to shut-down South Florida passing game. South Florida quarterback Matt Grothe is what i like to call "Strike when you least expected". Last week, he shocked West Virginia with two surprising plays to help them beat the #5 ranked team.

When its all said and done, The Bulls will win a close one in Lockhart, but don't be surprise if FAU ends South Florida's run to a national title. Let's go OWLSSSSSSSS.

Can former Hurricane finally come through in the playoffs?

Former Miami Hurricane, Alex Rogriguez looks to put his post-season drought behind him, when the New York Yankees face the Cleveland Indians tonight.

According to Sporting News, Rodriguez went 1-for-14 against the Detroit Tigers, extending his post-season drought without a homerun or an RBI to 44 at-bats.

He looks to turn things around for himself and his New York Yankees. According to ESPN, The Yankees have lost nine of there last 12 playoff games. Although his numbers for the playoffs are pathetic, you can't dismiss what he had done this year. He has fifty-two homeruns, 156 RBIs, 138 runs, and a 312. batting average.

But that's just the problem, he's only a regular-season player. It doesn't matter if its Seattle or New York, he just can't find a way to hit in October, when it matters.

Rodriguez becomes a free agent at the end of the season. Yet to get that guarantee contract and the respect of the New York fans, he will have to perform like another "Mr. October", Reggie Jackson or a "Mr. November" Derek Jeter.

Will this unbelievable season continue with some post-season magic? Let's see tonight when the "real" season begins. This is the year that A-Rod goes wild hitting-wise. He will prove he is the MVP and will help his team to there first championship in seven years.

USF knocks off #5 West Virginia.

How about those Bulls. No not the Chicago Bulls or the New York Red Bulls, but the the University of South Florida Bulls.

How those a team get out-gained, out-possessed, give up more turnovers and penalties and still win. Well thats what happen this Friday when The University of South Florida upset the #5 team in the nation, West Virginia, 21-13.

West Virginia had twice the amount of yardage than South Florida did. 437 yards to 274 yards. They also had 249 passing yards, which was more than South Florida's 135.

West Virginia had 28 more plays ran than South Florida. South Florida just happened to be the right place, at the right time.

West Virginia running game was no where to be found, both Heisman candidates Pat White and Steve Slaton were flat-out shut down.The Bulls defense look like a spanish rampage, while The Mountaineers offensive line looked tired and old. The Bulls defense forced six turnovers against a top 10 team, not bad for a program that just started 11 years ago.

Next week is the week FAU fans has been waiting for. That's right baby, University of South Florida comes to Fort Lauderdale to face the Owls of Florida Atlantic. Gay community accepts Tim Hardaway

Former Miami Heat player, Tim Hardaway was embraced by gay community after homophopic comments made several months ago.

Hardaway's comments were

"Well, you know i hate gay people, so let it be known. i don't like gay people and i don't like to be around gay people. I am homophobic. i don't like it. He also said he would not want a gay teammate.

The Yes institute in Miami was holding a discussion on how to keep transgender kids safe and out of harms way. When it came to share an idea, out of nowhere, Tim Hardaway raised his hand.

With 40 people, some of them gay and some of them strangers, he talked about the importance of being educated, awared, and knowledgable.

"I just wanted to go in and get educated, that's all. Get educated on what I said and why I said those things,'' Hardaway said Thursday in an interview with The Associated Press. "I'm working on understanding it now. I'm not really trying to make amends. I've been there trying to get help.''

My question is, why wait several months to go to a meeting like this. Tim Hardaway's comments were unfortunate and repulsive. You don't make a comment and tell a community you hate them, it's just wide of the mark. Humans make mistakes. i don't care if you're a millionare or a middle-class citizen, a remark like this will bring negative connetation to the public eye.
We know this visit to the Yes Institute was just a PR move, it's evident. We know Tim Hardaway wants to resurrect his image, and get back into the NBA.

But those who think that this move was enough, you better think again.

The gay community is a large community, a community who has rights just like everyone else. It will be a long time before Hardaway gains respect from the NBA and the public. The Yes Institute was the first step to fix his persona and to re-establish a relationship with the NBA and its players.

the Dolphins are 0-3, to start of the season.

The Dolphins down 31-14 in the fourth quarter, came back, but lost to Chad Pennington and the New York Jets, 31-28.

Chad Pennington threw for two touchdowns and rushed for another. He showed excitement after he scored his third touchdown of the day. He pumped his chest with his fist to the fans as a show of passion. Last week, he was doubtful to play the this game, but practice during the week and started for the team.

On the other hand, the Miami Dolphins are now 0-3. There's so many questions to be answered. When will former BYU quarterback rookie, John Beck start? When will the offensive line finally protect there quarterback?

One thing is for sure, Trent Green has been a good quarterback thus far. The few mistakes he made, was when he was not being protected by his offensive line. The Dolphins kicking game has been good, with Jay Feely. The talented running game from Leon Wasington and Ronnie Brown has been mediocre.

In all, Miami's offensive has been good, but the defense not's so good.

The Dolphins defense has not been able to stop the run. In there first three games, Miami's rushing defense has allow 100 or more yards to running backs; Clinton Portis, Marion Barber and Thomas Jones.

This week the Dolphins face the Oakland Raiders. Running Back, Lamont Jordan is second in the league with 350 yards rushing. He average's for more than 100 yards a game. Which means this week, Miami's rushing defense has to stop the run. The question is can they?

FAU is now 3-1. A look at FAU's impact players.

What a comeback it was in Denton, Texas, as the FAU Owls rallied back to beat North Texas 30-20. Oh yeah, what a quarterback shootout it was this this week.

FAU Owls quarterback, Rusty Smith and North Texas Mean Green quarterback, Daniel Meager threw for combined 623 yards. The biggest change this year from last year has been the play from the quarterback and defensive back position.

Smith, is in the top 30 in passing touchdown and 18th in passing yardage. You talk about stats, let's talk about his stats. In four games, Smith, has thrown for eight touchdowns and threw for 1,105 yards. He has completed 54 percent of his passes and has a quarterback rating of 139.6.

On the defensive side of the field, Tavious Polo has been a shut-down cornerback for the owls. The freshmen, now leads the nation with six interceptions on the year. In the last two games, Polo, has five interceptions; three against Minnesota and two against North Texas.

"i dont focus on stats", said Polo. "I just want to win, if we win it doesn't matter."

FAU is now in first place in the Sun-Belt conference. Next week, FAU looks to upset the 14th ranked Kentucky Wildcats. Can anyone say... Upset city.
