After the Appalachian State football program upset Michigan in last week college football season opener, it didn't take long before another upset occured.
Behind quarterback Matt Grothe, The University of South Florida shocked 17th ranked Auburn Tigers 26-23 in overtime. Grothe threw a 14-yard touchdown to Wide Reciever, Jesse Hester Jr. in overtime to silenced the 82,617 fans in attendence.
These are what i call---StatFacts of the day.
- The Bulls defense force five turnovers, and kept the Tigers to 290 total yards.
- The Tigers only gained 2 yards in its overtime possession.
- Delbert Alvarado missed 4 field goals...which would of made the final score 38-23.
- The Bulls out-possessed, out-ranned and out-passed the Tigers.
Since joining the Big East in 2005, USF has beaten three power houses thus far, Louisville, West Virginia, and now an SEC team in Auburn.
Games like these are what makes college sports great. These two examples of upsets only bring recognition and exposure to small schools like Appalachian State and University of South Florida. It's been two weeks of college football, and what a season it has been thus far. Keep the upset coming babyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy...................in the words of college basketball analyst Dick Vitale.
